On Alhaja Kaola, Sex Tape and Crisis Strategy


The Public Relations Society of America defines public relations as "A strategic Communication process that builds mutually beneficial relationship between organizations and their publics." Essentially, public relations specialists  manage an organization's image and reputation. They supervises and assesses public attitudes, and maintaining mutual relations and understanding between an organization and its public.



PR as a role of strategic communications, media relations, community relations, internal communications, crisis communications, public Affairs etc


When I saw a post on Facebook about the leaked sex tape, I waited for some hours for me to believe the clip is real, though, with some facts I read I couldn't hundred percent sure because of the era of technology we are till Alhaja Kaola came out herself to confirm she is the one in the clip


Having sex is not a big deal, it's a nature and no one can cheat nature, as a popular norm in journalism "If a dog bit a man is not a news but when a man bit a dog it is a news" the leaked sex tape has generated the media space since Wednesday, with Mojo journalism everything can be easily published, the caliber of Alhaja Kaola gave the leaked tape more attention, it is  clear that the clip is awkward. Alhaja is in trying time



Alhaja need PR expert before things get out of hand. As a student of communication and Public relations who understand more on the impacts of branding, campaigning, strategies and crisis management. She need an experts who specialize in creating and maintaining reputations.



Whoever advised her to do that kind of video "Alhaja Kaola responds to leaked sex video..." is just an amateur in PR, perhaps she might not even have PR expert in her team. Her recent video is unnecessary and just setting herself up for future issues (Insecurity).



Here is my little advice that would turn sadness to joy


1. Alhaja should stay away for a while, she should allow her PR woman/man handle stuff for her. Emotions can not stop issue like this, creating an emotional sympathy through victimhood posture can not work on issue like this


2. Develop the media response; everybody knows that the Nigeria media love press releases. Write many news angle, positively attack the blogs and  anonymous that released the tape. The focus will now be on the show, not the sex tape


3. Visibility check: The sex tape will not die, but it will be minimizing till it fall down. People would rather believe in you that it's a set-up and sympathizer will be more


4. My final submission: After the initial crisis has passed, there will be a lot of cleaning up to do before regaining her original reputation, as a preacher, Alhaja should minimize her programmes (Social media programme)  importantly, controversial issues in deen (religion)


Note: She will get over this, good or bad story is for a while. Whoever released such a video may be the one to regret. The poster should be ashamed of him or herself by now
